Whatever the challenge, you need an SUV that has what it takes. Explorer delivers the goods.
Included with the available Intelligent 4WD System, the Terrain Management System™ allows you
to dial in one of four specific terrain settings to maximize performance: Normal, Mud/Ruts, Sand
and Grass/Gravel.
The Explorer can carry up to seven passengers. The second row features a 60/40 split-fold-flat
bench and available bucket seats and console, while the third row has a 50/50 split-folding seat.
Behind the third row, you’ll find up to 595 liters of cargo volume. For more cargo space, up to 2,314
liters, fold the second and third rows for a flat load surface.
The available 3.5L EcoBoost engine employs direct injection, variable camshaft timing and parallel
twin turbochargers to deliver 370 PS/475 N.m.1
Hill Descent Control™ allows you to set and maintain speeds while going down steep grades.
You want the latest thinking in SUV tech? Then Explorer is for you.
Whether you’re pulling out of a driveway, parking lot or alleyway, the available 180-degree camera
with lens washer reveals objects in your periphery.
The available hands-free liftgate makes it easier than ever to load and unload gear into your Explorer. With the key fob in your pocket, simply open or close the liftgate with a kick of your foot within the range of the rear bumper’s sensors.
Dual 2nd-Row Smart-Charging USB Ports charge up to twice as fast as standard USB ports. Up to
2.5 amps - two in front, two in the rear.
Explorer has guts and brawn — and a soft side as well.
Explorer’s independent rear suspension helps give you a smooth ride and better control.
Available dual-zone electronic automatic temperature control ensures you and your front
passenger will be in your individualized comfort zones. Remote climate control is available.
Sometimes an epic day can be as simple as a nice, relaxing drive. Something made easier with
cooled, multicontour massaging seats, available in the Explorer Limited. The Active Motion®
system helps reduce muscle fatigue in your legs and lower back by using a subtle, rolling-pattern
lumbar massage.
A leather-wrapped steering wheel contains ergonomically arranged controls for audio, cruise
control and all MyFord Touch® functions.
From any angle, Explorer impresses. Updated styling cues include new automatic LED low-beam
headlamps and available dramatic signature lighting.
The available dual-panel moonroof lets you and your passengers see more of your daily Explorer
adventure.
Wherever you go, whatever you do, Explorer has your back. And that’s a good feeling.
The world’s first automotive production inflatable rear outboard (2nd row) safety belts are available in most Explorer models. The inflated safety belt helps distribute crash-force energy across more of the occupant's torso than a traditional safety belt, which helps reduce the risk of injury while providing support to the head and neck. These belts are compatible with child-safety seats.
Curve Control can slow Explorer by as much as 16 kph in about one second when it senses you’re going too fast for a particular curve. It uses both throttle reduction and four-wheel braking and is active at all times, functioning on dry and wet pavement. It is standard in all Explorer models. 1, 2
The LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children) system in Explorer makes securing a child seat easy and can help keep your child safe in case of an accident. It is standard on all Explorer models.
The Anti-Lock Brake System in Explorer has been made even better with the addition of standard Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) and Emergency Brake Assist (EBA). EBD balances braking force between front and rear, as needed, for more effective braking. EBA interprets a driver’s braking behavior and automatically initiates full braking faster than a driver ever could. Two more examples of Ford going further for you.
The standard Safety Canopy® System combines side-curtain airbags and a rollover sensor to help provide head and chest protection for outboard 1st-, 2nd- and 3rd-row passengers in certain side-impact and rollover accidents. Unlike traditional airbags, the safety canopy remains inflated for up to several seconds to reduce the risk of occupant ejection. Another important feature is roll-fold technology: If an occupant’s head is resting against a window, the airbag is designed to slide between the glass and the occupant as it inflates. 3, 4
